Afrobeats singer Terry G has opened up about the struggles many Nigerians face, attributing them to toxic parental upbringing.
Sharing his thoughts in a post on X, the artist said that harmful words spoken by parents during childhood often leave lasting scars on self-esteem, shaping how children view themselves even as adults.
Terry G explained that when people express doubt about their abilities or insist they cannot succeed, they are often echoing the negative voices of their childhood.
In his words:
“Many of our Nigerian parents did us strong things. When you come under my post saying you’ll never make it, that’s not really your voice — it’s the voice of your upbringing. Those ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that’ statements are just the same words your parents fed you while growing up.”
